May Days

May: one of my favorite months. It means school’s out. The days are long but not yet so hot. The garden and flower beds are full of plants and vegetables, although not all ready to be picked.

And then there are those special days. I was looking for ideas for this blog entry and here is what I found. I am not sure who determines such days but this is one list:

•May Is American Bike Month

•Asian Pacific American Heritage Month

•Asparagus Month

•Asthma & Allergy Awareness Month

•Better Hearing and Speech Month

•Flower Month

•National Bar-B-Que Month

•National Egg Month

•National Duckling Month

•National Hamburger Month

•National Mental Health Month

•National Salad Month

•National Photo Month

•National Physical Fitness and Sports Month

•National Strawberry Month

•Older Americans Month

•Transportation Month

Let’s not forget that National Nurses week is celebrated during May beginning May 6! There’s Cinco De Mayo, May Day, The Kentucky Derby, Memorial Day, National Penny Day, National Tap Dance Day, and more! All in the month of May.

What are you doing in May?

Five On Monday

Monday Five Countdown (from the Delightfully Sweet Life Blog)

Five Things I’m Grateful For
1. Springtime and not having allergies to much of anything. I can stand in a field of pollination and not sneeze.

2. My flexible job.

3. Darkness at 7 a.m. I like that the day wakes up an hour later.

4. My garden. This is our third year in this home and slowly but surely all the work we are putting into the yard and gardens is starting to show nicely.

5. For my church family and for a Pastor who tells it like it is. God is love.

Four Things I Can’t Stop Thinking About
1. Riding my horse. I need to be riding daily but the wind is just terrible.

2. The tax man. Oh how I dread this season so.

3. My grandmother. How I miss her so and wish I would have paid a visit this weekend. By we all had bad colds and I don’t dare take them on my travels and share them.

4. My iris. They will all be in bloom next month.

Three Things I Want To Accomplish This Week
1. Getting taxes all squared away.

2. The huge homework assignment that I have due at the end of the week.

3. Send some handwritten letters out to a few friends and family members.

Two Things I Am Working To Be Positive About
1. Having a party for my two year old. I am really stressing out about this.

2. Getting my car serviced and some extras needed for it.

One Random Thing
1. This world we live in is a crazy place. But I care not to be of this world, rather just in it during my time here sharing God’s message.

Last Photo of 2010

That is, the last photo I am posting on this blog for 2010. I’ve taken many more since of my baby boy on Christmas day.

What a year its been. Sure it has been a tough one considering these economic times but when I look back, all I really see are the joyous times and there were many. I want to share just a few:

1. Just having my baby boy and watching him grow and learn
2. A visit from a formal a Journalspace blogger and his wife
3. A visit from a horse blogger and artist from Europe who is now my new friend. See you in January!
4. A new job beginning in September.
5. A trip to Illinois for a family reunion and spend time with my grandmother in her home. Its one of my favorite places.
6. A trip to East TX to see my other beautiful grandmother.
7. A visit from my dad in April.
8. Watching the revival in our church–so many getting saved!
9. Enjoying the lunar eclipse a few weeks ago with my wonderful husband, just us under the night sky with camera and telescope.
10. A trip to West Texas to see even more family.

There is so much more really. Watching from the sidelines the success of friends and family in their own lives–their careers, family, education.

I do not know what this new year will bring but I do know that God is on the throne and that whatever comes our way, I will be do everything in His glory—including taking tons of pictures!

Resolutions? I don’t make them. I do set goals and often I do work on those throughout the year. I don’t say I will loose weight and stop spending money on this or that. Instead I set long and short term goals and develop plans. Everything else seems to fall into place.

It’s a new day–the last day of the year. No sense in waiting until New Years Day. I’m going to start today!

Happy New Year to my readers and visitors.

October Ten

Springtime is my favorite season of all. However, the autumn months provide a gorgeous canvas of color and spirit. Where I live, we can enjoy this time of year without turning on the heater like many are already doing in the evenings way up north. In fact, I open a window a bit and invite that cool air inside. I do not like that the days become shorter. It takes away from all the fun that can be had in the sunshine.

My ten favorite things for the month of October:
1. Pumpkins. I just love pumpkins–the orange ones, the ghost white ones and all those interesting gourds.
2. The coolness of the night air. After a long hot summer where the nights don’t cool off much, there’s nothing more wonderful than sitting out in the swing being kissed by the cool evening breeze.
3. Fall festivals particularly in the small towns of rural America offers some of the most wonderful treats.
4. Apple butter. I have learned to make apple butter but must wait until now to get the Jonathans.
5. Of all the seasons, fall is my favorite for fashion. It truly is the best for me.
6. It’s the best time for chili! A big pot of homemade chili.
7. The sky seems more blue, and the moon is brighter in the night sky.
8. Caring for my autmn garden
9. Crocheting. I don’t know why, but I enjoy crocheting items in the fall much better than I do the rest of the year.
10. The changing of the colors, the falling of leaves and the photo opportunities.
