Tornado Watching

Last month a typical springtime storm passed over the house and I was fortunate enough to capture some shots of a tornado forming above the field behind my house. More correctly, it was over the highschool. This afternoon, after close observation of “Texas Storm Chasers”, I followed the the storm rolling over the Dallas Metroplex. Fortunately it made it up to my place but only the edge. Thus, no hail but winds are damaging. The air is warm and just wicked feeling.

I grabbed the camera and ran outside, barefoot as usual, to shoot some mammatocumulus that I saw in one of my darling friend’s facebook page. My favorite cloud formation of all is the mammatus. The storm is moving fast and the wind is blowing so hard I almost fell over.

Prayers are said for those who have experienced loss over such tornadic activity today.

Monday Reminder

If you have made mistakes, there is always another chance for you. You may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing we call “failure” is not the falling down, but the staying down.

In The Rain Forest

There was a time I took a trail and only saw the big stuff–the trees, the mountains, the sky, the valleys below.  Rarely did I pay attention to the delicate petals of the small flowered Blue Eyed Mary of the Eastern Sierra.  I took no time to notice the yellow lesquerella.

Since I was 13, I carried a camera everywhere but took wide scenic shots.  These days, I look for anything and everything that the average person may not take time to see.

You miss out if you are not looking what is around you.   It is so easy to not take time to appreciate a situation or slow down and pay attention to what beauty is around you.

In 2007, during my walk through one of the rainforests of the Olympic National Park, I found these bodies of fungi.  This one in the photograph was probably about an inch and half, maybe two inches wide.  Look how beautiful it is with the moisture.

Life is short.  Enjoy the pleasures of life.

Northwest Solitude

This photo was taken September 2007 during my work in Washington and posted on the Summerwind.Journalspace blog. This is one of my favorites.

Rocky Coast

Somewhere along the Washington coastline I captured this photo. Maybe it was Ruby Beach. This photo I had taken was found in the archives that I never viewed or converted to jpg. It was the tail end of the excursion and I had become very tired. That last leg is like that. The two days were spontaneous while driving without a map. We had not communicated much for there was so much yet to learn as in the shadows of these rocks.
