Toward El Paso

10 Apr

Ninety miles to El Paso.

“It’s a long way….

to anywhere…..

from Orla Grocery”

It’s a long way from Rio Rancho New Mexico

to El Paso Texas without the I-25.

Guadalupe Peak drinks the last light of day

while the road under me

westbound stretches under darkness.

Photo taken in 2006 below the majestic Guadalupe Peak at dusk.

Wow! What a spectacular photograph. The next time I drive west I’ll make it a point to try and recreate this sunset photo in my mind. 🙂

I won’t forget that evening I was there. Tired from a trip from Albuquerque and feeling rather rebellious on this ridiculous assignment for work, I too the scenic route! Guadalupe Peak was one of my mom’s favorite places and I had not been there since I was a kid. I watched the sun go down from along the road.

This looks like something painted on a canvas.

I have never been to El Paso but have heard about it in a Steve Miller song.

Love the photo, and the words. Your poem?

Les, it was the most splendid painting.
Bobby, I’ve been there but I would never want to live there.
Exile, yes, my poem. Thank you.

What did you take this with? The grain is cool, the colors richly saturated.

Burst, I think I took it with my old SLR camera Minolta X370 35mm 200 film. Tripod of course.
