Daffodils

22 Mar

How I love them so. Each year I plant more of them. Clusters reach upward all standing at attention proudly displaying their brightness. And there is one in the far corner of the yard swaying alone in the wind leaning toward the house as if reaching for acceptance. There will be more next year. Plenty more.

To Daffodils

Fair Daffodils, we weep to see
You haste away so soon;
As yet the early-rising sun
Has not attain’d his noon.
Stay, stay,
Until the hasting day
Has run
But to the even-song;
And, having pray’d together, we
Will go with you along.

We have short time to stay, as you,
We have as short a spring;
As quick a growth to meet decay,
As you, or anything.
We die
As your hours do, and dry
Away,
Like to the summer’s rain;
Or as the pearls of morning’s dew,
Ne’er to be found again.

Robert Herrick

    So very pretty! I don’t have any myself, but I LOVE wandering through the city and seeing them popping up here and there. 🙂

    I grow these too. I like as a change to traditional yellow ones.

    What a beautiful photo. I live in the desert southwest, so daffodils aren’t too common. I do, however, have a wonderful iris bed!
