Hypnotized by a Ceiling Fan

26 Apr

Kind readers,
My two and half week old was an angry red baby. He only cries when he wants to eat and he might fuss a bit when he needs changing or wants to be held. Let nothing come between him and his food.

My husband was holding him while I was preparing to feed him. As he walked out of the nursery into the living room where I sat comfortably on the sofa, the baby stopped crying immediately while gazing at the motionless ceiling fan. The fans in my home are attractive and I like looking at them too but I don’t get the same effect as the baby does. Since there is no framework developmentally in the brain yet for the baby to make any logical conclusions I will suggest that it is the contrast of dark wood of the blades and fan motor housing against the light colored ceiling that captures his attention.

The baby quieted down as he was brought to me all the while gazing at the accessory above. He wiggled a bit and ate and then fell fast asleep. We now have a tool for calming the baby and we don’t even have to turn it on.

Whatever works! When are you going to give us some more pictures of your little bundle of joy?

FYI: We use to put Josh in the car seat and drove him around the block a few times. Sometimes, that was the only way to quiet him. I dont know what it was about the car, but he liked it.

That works for us too. He falls fast asleep as soon as I pull out of the driveway.

Linda, I’ll post more photos over the next week.

Dori, Thanks so much. Yes, I am getting enough sleep. The nights are far easier than expected.

Wizzy, that’s a good tool for sure.
