Italy, Texas

13 Feb

The things you find on the side of the road…

While driving to San Antonio the first week of the February, we stopped in Italy at Dairy Queen for a soda and some fries.  On the corner of the road and the on-ramp to the northbound I-35 is found “Starship Pegasus”.  According to reports, and there are many, Starship Pegasus was once a space age snack bar.  It was set up for dining inside the dome and photo opportunities outside.  It is shaped like the Enterprise.  Andy Gee is the owner and apparently is seeking a few million dollars to build on to this interesting structure.  In the meantime it is closed.  But it is definitely an eye catcher.

Italy, Texas is located at the junction of U.S. Highway 77 and State Highway 34, just off Interstate 35E, approximately 15 miles south of Waxahachie and 20 miles north of Hillsboro.

that looks like something we could have found in the 1950’s. Pity it’s closed.

Thank you for the SecretSanta package!! The picture is lovely and I know exactly where I’ll hang it.

I don’t recall seeing a place called Italy in Texas? I thought I’d been everywhere in Texas!
Strange looking structure. Have a great weekend!
