Yuma, Arizona

20 Apr

One leg of our vacation included a drive from Gila Bend to Yuma Arizona specifically for the tour of the Yuma Territorial Prison. I have been here multiple times throughout my younger life yet this visit I saw it very differently. As a child, we often recall things much bigger than they really are. It seemed, according to records that few ever really served their full time in this prison. There were the typical attempted and successful breakouts and fights which give this landmark quite an interesting story to share.

Do not visit Yuma or Southern Arizona after May. The sun was warm yet the temperature was in the mid 80’s whereas in the summer it remains in the upper 90’s and 100’s. It’s hard to imagine prisoners behind these walls with no luxury of air conditioning that most of our prison resorts have today.

So glad you were just there for a visit! I can’t imagine Arizona in the summer. I usually visit in February when it’s warm and there are still plenty of beautiful flowers. Great pic and JS title! hehe
