Bottomless Lakes, New Mexico

26 Jan

These high red bluffs overlook the seven small lakes of Bottomless Lakes New Mexico.  On my road trip to/from Roswell NM, I often stop here to stretch and nibble on something I picked up in town.  The lakes, located along the Pecos River, are not really bottomless but according to records, cowboys called them bottomless because with ropes tied together, they could not find the bottom.

Great photos – I envy you your ability to travel down all those back roads. So many times I pass and old dirt road and wonder, what would I find?
I envy your ability to slow down and take it all in – so many of us either don’t have the time or are not willing to take the time. After viewing your photos, I can see it would be well worth the time.
